A staff of Yahoo! Philippines Answers posted an open question yesterday: “If you can suggest a slogan for the Philippines, what will you recommend and why?”. The question was meant for still a trending topic up to now – a new brand/slogan for the Department of Tourism.

DOT Undersecretary Enteng Romano resigned from post after claiming full responsibility of the approximately P5 million spent for the ‘soft’ launch of the discarded brand/slogan. DOT and those people from the Tourism Congress do not seem to be enjoying some unified ties. Secretary Lim now asks for help from various sectors for a brilliant brand/slogan for his beloved department, and yes, for the tourism industry of the Philippines.

The ‘Pilipinas Kay Ganda’ gained a lot of thumbs down from different sectors of the society. ‘Pilipinas Kay Ganda’ ironically for most Filipinos do not seem too pleasing. Yes, it may be expressing the Filipino pride as it was written in our native language but what about the foreign tourists to whom all these efforts are laid out for?

So here’s what they need – a brand/slogan and a logo which will encompass the following factors:

• something that will attract more tourists to come visit the Philippines
• something that’s made for a global audience
• something unique and won’t look like another copycat

Let me rephrase the question for you. If you were to come up with a slogan for the Philippine tourism, what would it be and why?
