Appearance says a lot on what kind of a person you really are. In a society where people judge you on how you look more than your achievements, educational background or your outlook in life, you are basically a done deal when you have tattoos and piercings all over your body. One will be dismissed as a delinquent, a good for nothing ‘tambay’ or worst a drug addict. It is like having a big taboo sign written all over your body. As open- minded as our society nowadays wants to be, one cannot simply brush off this kind of stereotyping among men and women with ink on their skin.
We met a very interesting person whose skin is covered with ink and piercings, typically the person that your mom warned you about, not to talk to. Society in all its judging eyes is proven wrong once again, because the person we met is just like the rest of us. Here is a person whose demeanor doesn’t give you a clue on what life has thrown his way. Everyone has a story to tell, regardless of what society brands him. When asked about his greatest struggle in life, here is his answer:
“My greatest struggle in life is noong namatay ang erpats ko, wala kasi kasama ang mga magulang ko sa bahay. Kaming magkakapatid kasi eh may sarili na ring mga pamilya. Noong araw na inatake ang tatay ko sa puso, lalabas siya para bumili ng gamot niya, yung pang maintenance niya. Sobrang init noong araw na ‘yun kaya siguro inatake din siya. Nagkasisihan kaming magkakapatid noong nangyari yon. Pero naayos din kasi dapat intact pa rin kayo as a family, wala rin namang ibang magdadamayan kung hindi kayo kayo rin lang.”
