I may be wrong, there may be other dragon boat teams of Batangas, but what I can be certain of is this team, the Sagwan Tanauan (of Tanauan City of course) is the first Dragon Boat Team I’ve met.
[imagebrowser id=41]They’re not your typical DBT as portrayed by those energy drink commercials. These are teenagers, boys and girls less than 20, and THEY WON RACE 26 of the Philippine National Games’ Dragon Boat Competition currently being held today in Brgy. Wawa-Boot, Tanauan City, Batangas!
That was the last heat for the Mixed competition, and they bagged 3rd overall for initial rankings. There’s going to be a final race for the proper winners (I think), but this early these guys deserve a lot of praise and a lot of support from us.
Because of other commitments, I couldn’t stay longer and watch the other heats. Is this my first Dragon Boat Race event? You bet.
I got there by hitching with the husband-and-wife team of Lipa Tourism, Sherwin and Pam Cortez, along with their son Zach. I had nothing else to do this morning, and when I heard about 20 Teams from Manila are coming over to Taal Lake, then there must really something to it. Sherwin as I have learned is a former oarsman, and even competed in Taiwan.
Will be editing the other photos tomorrow and uploading it here. You’re gonna come back right?
